A century-long legacy of bridging technology and management

  • 1929

    The foundations

    The Business and Industrial Management Institute (BWI) is founded at ETH Zurich, establishing management education within a technical university.

     

  • 1933

    Management meets engineering

    Management subjects become part of the Mechanical Engineering curriculum, bringing business thinking directly into engineering education.

  • 1974

    Continuing management education

    ETH introduces the NDS in Betriebswissenschaften, a postgraduate management programme for experienced professionals and a predecessor of today’s MAS ETH MTEC.

  • 2003

    Executive MBA ETH SCM

    ETH expands its executive management education with the Executive MBA in Supply Chain Management, focused on supply chain and operations leadership.

  • 2004

    D-MTEC is established

    ETH establishes the Department of Management, Technology, and Economics (D-MTEC), bringing together research and teaching across management, economics, technology and innovation.

  • 2005

    MAS ETH MTEC

    The NDS evolves into the MAS in Management, Technology, and Economics, reflecting the Bologna framework and a broader integration of management, technology and economics.

  • 2022

    EMBAx

    ETH Zurich and the University of St.Gallen launch the Executive MBA HSG in Business Engineering (EMBA X), combining perspectives on technology, transformation and leadership.

  • 2028

    The next evolution

    The MBA ETH MTEC builds on this legacy with a redesigned programme for professionals navigating the intersection of management, technology and leadership.
